1st Radstock Scout Group gets support from Radstock Co-op’s

As in previous years, Radstock Co-op sought applications from community groups and local causes within its trading areas to receive financial support and help raising their profile.   The 1st Radstock Scout Group, currently faced with the prospect of a spending several thousands of pounds for resurfacing the driveway to the Scout’s headquarters in Wells Road and repairs to the former quarry face, seized the opportunity and promptly submitted their bid.

Their application went forward for member’s to vote on at the Society’s AGM held in June 2013.  Following a ballot, George Donkin, President declared that First Radstock Scouts Group was one of the chosen causes selected by the members present.

The cheque presentation was held at the Scout’s headquarters on 16th July 2013 whereby Angela Wilson, director of the Society handed over a cheque for £1,100 to some of the young members.

The Scouts Group was founded in 1912 and originally met in the old Palace Cinema in Coombend.  The Group now has over 70 members aged from 6 to 18 and provides a stimulating environment for youngsters to build confidence, develop socially and learn new skills.

A spokesperson for the Radstock Co-operative said, “We saw an increase in the number of applications this year compared to previous years.  Applications were received from a variety of different causes covering a wide geographical area.  Being a member-owned organisation, members get to have a say in the way we operate and that includes voting on the causes they wish to support for the year.  As well as the financial support provided by the Society, we hope that we can develop relationships with the First Radstock Scout Group to help raise awareness of their work and the benefits to young people and the local community.”
