Scanner Appeal Receives Further Boost

The Weston General Hospital Scanner Appeal total has increased following a recent donation of £1,000 from the Society raised from the carrier bag charging levy.  The Society’s President, Jeremy Fricker and Vice-President Graham Jeffery are pictured presenting the cheque outside Weston General.

The scanner appeal is a joint campaign run by the League of Friends and Weston Area Health NHS Trust (WAHT). It was established in April 2016 to raise £400,000 for new life-saving digital scanning equipment and to refurbish the hospital’s x-ray department. So far, fundraising efforts by both staff and community members have helped raise 80% of the target with the donation from Co-op and WAM bringing the appeal’s current total to £338,000.

WAHT chairman, Grahame Paine, said: “The kindness of local groups and businesses is bringing us ever-closer to our target which is great news for our patients. Our improvements have begun within the x-ray department which, alongside the new equipment, will improve the experience for our patients as well as staff.”
