Co-op Retail Conference 2022 took place on 11-13th March in Crewe.

It attracts leaders, managers & directors of consumer owned retail co-operatives from across the UK. Set over three days, the conference is a vibrant mix of expert speakers & shared learning from across co-operative retail societies.
Speakers included, a welcome from Rose Marley, CEO, Co-operatives UK, Rhian Thomas, Head of Shopper Insight provided insight into the wants & needs of today’s consumers. Jonathan Reynolds, Said Business School spoke about the economic challenges retailers face in the recovery from the pandemic, along with how technology will influence stores in the future. Aaron Stewart & Linda Barlow, from the newly formed Co-operative Law Association explored how solidarity among retail co-operatives could help overcome online challenges. Ewan Vinnicombe-Wallis, Media Executive & former Blue Peter Editor & Debbie Robinson, Central England Co-operative spoke of how to engage young people. Russell Gill, Co-op Group challenged society leaders to think about their own Co-operative’s Apprenticeship Levy contributions. With closing remarks by Rose Marley, CEO, Co-operatives UK.
Speaking on a panel along side Ursla Lidbetter, CEO, Lincolnshire Co-operative, Phil Ponosonby, CEO, Midcounties Co-operative, Denise Scott-McDonald, President, Co-op National Members' Council & Rose Marley, CEO, Co-operatives UK; Don discussed the rise of conscious capitalism & ‘business for good’. ‘Some of it’s about awareness & sharing what’s out there,’ says @CooperativesUK CEO Don Morris. ‘Members of CUK have access to services & advice- that’s vital to small businesses.
Don currently holds the position of Chairman for Co-operativesUK. Co-operatives UK is the voice for the Uk’s thousands of independent co-ops. They support co-ops to start up & thrive- along with providing access to expert advice, evens & training. Don took up the role of Chair at the 2021 June AGM- stating ‘We have a brilliant & committed team at Co-operatives UK. I am excited to take up this role leading the board of the Uk co-operative sector’s apex body.’
