Radstock Co-operative Society Raise Funds for Midsomer Norton Girls Football Teams

In support of the Women’s World Cup Radstock Co-operative Society’s Head Office Team held a sweepstake. As a passionate football supporter Cassie Moon, from the Retail Operations Team took the incentive to run the sweepstake with half the winnings going to Midsomer Norton Football Club’s Girls U13’s Team. ‘It’s important that young girls are given the same opportunity to play football as boys. With the Women’s World Cup highlighting females in sport, we wanted to support Midsomer Norton Football Club in providing the opportunity for those in the local community to get involved in the sport & be able to experience everything being part of a team offers.’

Daniel Mill, Coach of MSN Girls Football Teams said, ‘We only started our girls’ team in January with the initial thought that we would maybe get 8-10 girls a week. We now have between 25-30 coming to training every week! Due to demand, we have expanded our teams to have U12s & a U13 team. Both have entered this seasons Somerset Girls League, playing matches countrywide. We would like to thank Cassie & her colleagues at Radstock Co-operative Society for their generous donation. Gestures like yours are vital to help fund grassroots football, we are an army of volunteers who try & keep costs at a minimum for the parents. The funds raised have allowed us to purchase Player of the Match Medals & new match footballs for the girls’.

The girls played their first ever league game on the weekend. The U13’s Team won 5-0 with the U12 girls also winning 5-2. Well done to both teams for kicking the season off with a fantastic win! A special congratulations to Iyla Yates, who was awarded the very first ‘Player of the Match’ medal!
